Unconscious biases are learned attitudes or stereotypes that are automatic, deeply ingrained, and guide behavior and expectations. Conclusions drawn can affect lives. Being aware and educating ourselves on unconscious bias is the first step to understanding it and diminishing it. This program will explore implicit bias – what it is, how to recognize it, the negative effects, and how to curb it. Topics also include how employers can decrease implicit bias in the workplace (and why it’s critical). Finally, the course explains laws aimed at discrimination prevention and the legal liability facing companies that allow bias to poison their workplaces.
